Overnight part to a stopped line

The situation

An automotive supplier in the Midwest experienced an unexpected equipment failure on a stamping press. A replacement hydraulic manifold was available at an industrial parts distributor several hundred miles away, and the customer contacted BMA Express that evening to arrange immediate transportation, with the plant's production line scheduled to restart before sunrise.

What we did

The distributor's warehouse had already closed for the day. Dispatch reached the on-call supervisor, who agreed to meet a driver at the loading dock once a truck could confirm arrival time. A sprinter van already running a route through the region was rerouted to the pickup, cutting significant time off what a fresh dispatch from the nearest terminal would have taken.

Loading ran later than the customer had hoped. Dispatch called ahead with the revised departure time and stayed in touch with the plant's night contact over the following hours so the delivery could be tracked against the actual schedule rather than the original estimate. The driver had enough hours available under his current log to complete the run without a mandated break and took the most direct interstate route north.

The result

The part reached the plant early the next morning, well ahead of the shift change. The receiving department confirmed delivery, and the restart proceeded as planned.
